Last summer Michael Frederick, a curriculum development specialist for Farmers Insurance Group, became the first from the nationally renowned firm to earn the much sought after Certified Professional in Learning and Performance ™ (CPLP) credential.

Now, only months after completing the rigorous program, Michael says that the professional benefits of being CPLP™ certified have been evident.

"I work on claims, leadership and management training programs," he said. "I did not come from the training field, so the CPLP™ allowed me to look critically at the field and, [since the certification], I've been recognized as a training professional in my field."

While CPLP™ certification has offered a valuable return for many workplace learning and performance professionals, most agree that preparation for the two-phase credentialing program can at times seem overwhelming. Many CPLP™ candidates, including Michael, turn to Owl's Ledge, a consulting firm headed by founder and CPLP™ certified Trish Uhl, for guidance and support.

Since his completion of the CPLP™ certification, Michael has been invited to St. Louis to speak about the usefulness of the CPLP and has started a CPLP SIG (Special Interest Group) with his local ASTD chapter (Baton Rouge) to help others to be successful in the program.

"It was one of the most positive things I've done for my career," Michael said.
