Tips from a Work Product Rater

===================================================================
CPLPCOACH.COM Tip of the Week - July 2009
===================================================================

We are fortunate this week to have input from John who shares his experiences as both a CPLP candidate, as well as a long time Work Product rater.

John sent in a list of tips that are concise and to the point (much like how your submission should be!).

Here are John's Work Product submission tips:

  • Follow the directions

  • Be as clear as possible -- don't make the raters think

  • Follow the directions

  • Use proof, not statements

[Trish's note:] Make sure you follow the most recent directions - by downloading the most current CPLP Candidate Bulletin from:

Some tips on preparing your Work Product:

  • Decide on a project to submit

  • Collect everything you can

  • Collect more stuff

  • Look at the materials required and the rubrics and select the *best* and *most extensive* materials to *prove* you did what you claim.

Proof is the key!

So if you say "I surveyed 100 people," show a completed survey form with [a sampling of] raw and summarized results.

[Trish's note:] Now that the Challenge Questions (AKA Follow-on Questions) have been officially removed from the Work Product submission process, you can bet that the raters are going to be more strict when it comes to quality & representation of your evidence, as well as quality of your written responses to the Component Questions.

Thanks very much to John for taking the time to share these tips!
